Students gathered outside the lunch room last week to see the tables that were now present in the area. They were astonished to find that on the tables were… Bunnies?
CTE Rush Week took place last week during lunches, giving many courses the opportunity to showcase what they have to offer. The classes ranged from widely recognized subjects to courses that were unfamiliar to many students, and even included the debut of several new classes at FHS.
More than ten classes attended the event, allowing students a good opportunity to see what some FHS has to offer.
CTE week started off strong on February 16th with Project Management and Early Childhood Education.
Emily Lewis, Grade 11, a Project Management student, praised the class. “I really love [Project Management] because it teaches me how to organize and plan events in a more efficient manner. I also love that I am able to build a community within the school, as I’ve always been a firm believer that there shouldn’t be cliques within a school atmosphere,” said Emily.
CTE week continued onto Tuesday, February 17th, with Health Science and Yearbook.
The Health Science table had something intriguing.
“I brought in a period cramp simulator to show some of our classmates who are unable to experience a menstrual cramp what one may feel like,” Emily said. “I wanted to highlight a topic within health science that is not heavily spoken about in real life.”
Students were also able to get a glimpse into Yearbook. Jazmin Dominguez-Avila, Grade 11, shared how she feels about the class.
“I really like Yearbook. I think joining the class was the best thing I have ever done. It’s a good class to take the opportunity to branch out and definitely step outside of your comfort zone. Yearbook teaches you so many things that can be used in the real world and it’s such a really great class. I would highly recommend joining yearbook if a student is ever thinking about it,” said Jazmin.
Wednesday hosted the Agriculture pathways. FFA, Future Farmers of America, came out to help with the setup.
Mrs. Devon Deal brought out a wide assortment of goods to show off her class. Plants were lined on the table as students tried to guess what plant was what. Many guessing games of different animals were spread about for students to give a try to. The best of all, in my official opinion, was the cutest bunny ever known, hopping around for students to see.
“The goal today was to encourage people to understand what our classes offer,” Mrs. Deal stated. “The different plants are all from our horticulture class, with even some of them being on our actual print ID list for flora within the class.”
For Animal Science, Mrs. Deal had also brought out the aforementioned bunny and pictures of different animals with guides for students to identify them.
On Thursday, Automotive, Public Safety, and Journalism.
Journalism is one of the new CTE classes that will teach the basics of journalism. The teacher of the course, Ms. Addie Stauffer, spoke about her dreams for the new class. She was hopeful about the class, saying, “I think the course will be an exciting way for students to interact with their school. It’s not just essay writing, but actually getting to use your voice to talk about what matters to you.”
Friday ended CTE week with a bang. Aviation brought out something special for their booth: a flight simulator.
“We brought out one of the flight simulators that the school bought for us. We wanted to give kids that have never flown before the chance to experience the environment of aviation, and what they would learn inside the course.” Mr. Scott Hanna said about his presentation. Many students lined up for the opportunity to step into the simulator and experience takeoff and landing firsthand, with some even crashing the plane.
Thank you to all the CTE courses who brought this week to life!

The CTE rush week was so useful, and it helped me realize we had so many different classes. It also helped me learn about them and see my options on what classes to take next year.
