Franklin High School students that are interested in writing, photography, media, or just sharing their interests in general will soon have a new opportunity at the school.
Starting in Fall 2026, Ms. Stauffer will be teaching Broadcast Journalism through the CTE department, where students can be introduced to the basics of journalism: writing, interviewing, photographing, and idea finding. Students in the course will have the chance to contribute to The Prowler Press, the school newspaper, and may also have opportunities to have their work published by the local paper, The Franklin Press.
Students do not need prior experience to join, or to excel, in this course. Broadcast Journalism will include a variety of creative and collaborative roles, so even if you aren’t jumping at the chance to sit down and write, there may still be value to you in interviewing, editing, photography, social media design, page layout, reporting, and more.
This class is designed to help students be involved in their community and have their unique voice heard; it’s not writing an essay, it’s sharing with your community what matters most to you. Coverage could include anything from school events, like UNIFY or Prom, to sports coverage, local issues, student life, music, opinions, and more. Broadcast Journalism will help students tell the stories happening around them while also learning real-world skills to interact with their every day media sources, whether it be TikTok or a breaking news article.
Anyone that is looking for a creative, hands-on, class that also is connected to your community will find that chance within Broadcast Journalism. If you have questions, please email Ms. Stauffer or go talk to her in her classroom!
