In a world of vast diversity, Bad Bunny’s halftime show for the Super Bowl LX united millions with rhythm and hope, all while incorporating the essence of not only Puerto Rican culture, but all Latin culture.
Bad Bunny showcased relatable, common themes and cultural references to the entirety of Latin countries during his performance featuring the sugar cane fields, the power poles, food carts, women working with concrete blocks, a nail technician, and a jewelry vendor, symbolizing the hard work of Latin people. Bad Bunny also featured a wedding, showing off a family celebrating the love of two people. The wedding had details like the whole family dancing, kids running and playing, and a kid sleeping across three chairs.
Bad Bunny included his recognizable set up from his recent album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOtoS, “La Casita,” which had famous singers, actors, and influencers like, Cardi B, Young Miko, Karol G, Pedro Pascal, Jessica Alba, Alix Earl, and many more dancing within.
Bad Bunny invited Lady Gaga to perform her song, “Die with a Smile,” but turned it into a classic salsa, which many people were shocked and excited about. He also invited Ricky Martin, singing a part of Bad Bunny’s song “Lo que le paso a Hawaii,” where the lyrics talk about standing your ground to save your home.
Bad Bunny also showcased a message on the Levi’s Stadium’s billboard , “THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE.” He paired this with asking God to bless the entirety of America, including all the countries in both North and South America. Bad Bunny showed a football with a message of, “Together we are All America”
Students say they loved the performance. They thought it was a good showcase of culture. It was hype and fun. It was emotional. Some loved seeing their favorite famous person supporting Bad Bunny during his “La Casita” scene. And, some, even said that though they didn’t understand the lyrics, it was still a vibe.
As we say here at Franklin High school, “Once a Panther, Always a Panther,” showcasing our love for all students, staff, and community as a family. We are all equal and proud. Bad Bunny’s performance was to showcase every human being as equals, and to emphasize that all together we are one America.
