If you’ve never been on a ghost walk in the small town of Franklin, NC, you’re missing out.
On a Ghost Walk, Greg Clark takes you to haunted places in the town, like grave yards and areas of Main Street to discuss things like the French and Indian War and many Native American wars that have taken place.
I sat down with Nancy Rogers, a community member who helps Mr. Clark on his infamous Ghost Walks.
When asked about the most memorable ghost story she’s heard on one of these walks, Nancy said, “There’s the one about the zombie man.”
A man who loved cars died, and, when he died, his family took him to the funeral home. In the funeral home, his eyes wouldn’t stay shut, even after they had been closed.
After the man’s funeral, after all his family had gone home, the man’s car that he loved so much was sitting in a shop.
Later on in the night, the man’s family saw a vehicle’s headlights in their driveway that looked like the old man’s. Only the man’s wife and daughter were home, as his son had gone to see the car.
The wife and daughter heard loud banging on their front door, startling them during their dinner.
They went to see who it was and found it was the old man. He was banging on the door. He finally stopped after 3 minutes, and he then walked back to his car, stiff-legged and zombie-like.
He drove away into the darkness of the night, and, as he pulled out of the driveway, his son pulled in. The son was petrified. He just saw his dead father in his old car that he had just seen in the shop not even thirty minutes ago.
The story of the old man and his car are just one of many gems that can be heard during a Ghost Walk. Nancy explained the fun of Ghost Walks isn’t just spooking people, but “telling the stories and watching people’s expressions change.”
The Ghost Walks allow people to learn “a new history.”
