Do you like reading but just can’t find the right book?
If this sounds like you, worry no more because here are three great reads just for you.
Up first is The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen.
A realistic fiction about a girl who loses her leg due to a car crash, tragically cutting her track season short.
As Jessica tries to get through her life, she learns how to move on and accept her life as it is, embracing every change.
“It was an inspirational book that teaches that losses big or small don’t mean the end of something you love. The effort you put in and the dedication you show is what ultimately decides how you end up,” says Alivia Clouse, Grade 10.
The next book on the list is Keeper of the Lost City by Shannon Messenger.
Sophie Foster has always felt misplaced in the world never really knowing where she belongs. What’s worse? She can hear how much everyone hates her.
That’s right, she has telepathic powers, and hearing everything someone says about you can be a lot.
Everything changes, however, when one day she not only finds out she is an elf, but also has to move to another dimension of earth completely leaving the only family she has ever known.
As Sophie tries to stay afloat, she comes to realize her life is a lot more complicated than it ever seems.
Tinley Crawford, Grade 9 and avid fan of the book, says, “It’s the only book series I actually enjoy reading. I love the mystery and the little bit of romance. I love the friendships and that it’s a clean book still packed with action.”
Lastly we have the book Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Susan Collins.
Most people know the author by her other works on Hunger Games, and, even though it relates to the previous books, this is not a book you need to read The Hunger Games to understand.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is easy to jump into, and the book keeps you on your toes with the plot of how President Snow came to be the man he was in the first Hunger Games book.
Cheyenne Plemmons, Grade 9, who usually has a distaste for reading, says, “The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes is probably one of the greatest books I’ve read. It’s a prequel from the Hunger Games books and I think it did a good job of giving the readers a more in depth and understanding of how it was in the past in Hunger Games. I really enjoyed reading it!”
Hope this helps you find a book you love. Happy reading!
