Question: What made you pursue your career?
Answer: My mamaw was a teacher, and she was my hero. I stayed with her a lot when I was little, and she always encouraged me to become a teacher. I honestly never even explored another career choice because I wanted to make her proud.
Q: What was your favorite part about teaching?
A: My favorite aspect of teaching was getting to know my students and co-workers. Many of my colleagues have become like family and ultimately my best friends. I have had students that I literally would have adopted because I loved them like my own.
Q: Biggest accomplishment or most memorable moment as a teacher?
A: In 2005 I earned my National Boards. It was a rigorous process and I had to give it everything I had to complete the process and pass the test, but I did it.
Q: Advice for other students?
A: Nobody cares. That sounds harsh, but what you wear, what your hair looks like, what you ate for lunch, how much you weigh, how you did on a presentation, etc. People are more than likely focused on themselves. However, they do care about your well being, happiness and success if they have a good heart with good intentions.
Q: What will you miss most?
A: I will miss people: the connections, the laughs, the lessons learned, the growth, the feel of unity, etc.
As a former student of Ms. Vinson’s class, I decided to provide my perspective on the bittersweet retirement of a beloved teacher.

Q: Why did you choose this class?
A: I chose Foods class because I thought it’d be fun, especially since I want to pursue a career in culinary arts.
Q: What was your favorite thing about Ms. Vinson’s class?
A: I enjoyed all the days we got to cook; I learned so many simple recipes and it was fun to cook with my group.
Q: How has Ms. Vinson changed you throughout your school year?
A: Ms. Vinson helped me to appreciate the small things, to not give up after failing, and to not care about what others think. I enjoyed being in her class; it was the best part of my day that semester.
