A strong final week of the regular season has the Farmington volleyball team in a good position heading into the Section 1AAA tournament.

The Tigers played No. 1-ranked Prior Lake tough in a three-set loss last Tuesday, and then wrapped up a sixth-place finish in the South Suburban Conference with a 3-0 sweep of Burnsville in last Thursday’s regular season finale. At 16-10 overall, the Tigers earned a first-round bye in the section tournament, as well as a second-round home game against either Owatonna or Rochester John Marshall, two teams they have defeated already this fall.

“We are in a really good place going into sections. We have played two top-five teams very tough, we have taken care of teams we feel we should beat and we feel like we have not peaked yet,” Farmington coach Mike Woody said. “If we can serve receive well and take teams out of what they do well with our serves and offense, we feel we can make a run.”

The Tigers had just four serve receive errors against Burnsville. All 15 players got a chance to get on the court in the 25-18, 25-12, 25-15 sweep.

Eight players provided kills, led by junior Kenzie Hesse with 13. Emma Fahning added six digs and hit four ace serves and led the team with 15 digs and 13 serve receptions. Brenna Hesse added 14 digs and 11 receptions.

Setter Emily Berdan put up 17 assists.

The Tigers gave the No. 1-ranked Lakers a scare last Tuesday at Tiger Gym, but couldn’t get the key points late in a 25-23, 25-14, 25-23 loss.

Kenzie Hesse led the offense with nine kills. Fahning tallied 19 digs and 19 serve receptions and Brenna Hesse totaled 29 serve receptions. Berdan provided 23 assists.

The Tigers open Section 1AAA tournament play tomorrow night at Tiger Gym.
