This week I got the chance to interview Ms. LaCapelle, a new health teacher here at Farmington High School. She has lived in Eagan her whole life. She got her undergraduate in exercise science from the University of Saint Thomas. She had hopes of going into physical therapy and later did an internship and realized it wasn’t for her. Later on she got her teaching license and masters in health education from the University of Minnesota in 2015. She has subbed at FHS for the last 2 years and did her student teaching here and now she teaches health education. She loves the communities and how welcoming it is here. She also worked at an assisted living facility for 11 years, she really enjoyed it, and for the last year she worked at Travelers Insurance in Saint Paul. She worked in HR in call center but always wasn’t for her but she glad she got that experienced in the business world. I asked her how she knew she wanted to become a teacher? She told me she knew about 5 years ago. Both her parents and sister are teachers. She coached volleyball and enjoyed working with kids and that how she knew she wanted became a teacher. I also asked her what are something things she’s struggled with as becoming a teacher, she replied with telling me it’s hard thinking of material to do for each lesson and she tries to do things that the students will enjoy and to get them involved. Also with teaching the material in different ways with activities. Another question i asked her is why she enjoys teaching, she really enjoys working with kids and other people.
