Girl’s Basketball: Undefeated streak

Ellie Seyfert, Staff Writer

Girl’s Basketball has continued on in their season remaining strong and resilient. They are currently undefeated with a (13-0) record, and are first in the conference. The team’s grit and chemistry has lead them to be ranked the number four team in the state.

The girl’s first big milestone of the season, was starting out the first conference game defeating Lakeville North, a well known rival. The team stated that beating Lakeville North was one of their goals they made for this year. With their determination and motivation, this win will be one of the biggest highlights of the season. Since then, the team has only gone up from there. They have continued to show the conference and teams the drive that they have this year, defeating teams such as: Burnsville, Rosemount, Prior Lake, and more. They are also catching eyes from people around the state by defeating out of conference teams, and winning both games against Grand Rapids and Northfield, in the St. Olaf tournament they took part in. I spoke with senior forward, Abbie Clayton, about what has enabled them to remain (13-0) so far. “One huge thing about this team is how unselfish we are and how we flow together. We push each other each day to make each other better. We motivate one another and have a strong level of trust in each other and I think that really shows on the court.” The team has also worked hard in practices and games to perfect their offense, defense and fundamentals. “We’ve worked on acting as one unit on the court. In practice we focus on form and shooting to make our offense effective. For defense we play with 6 defenders instead of five, to allow us to become better. We have the best defense in this conference and we are unstoppable with that.”

The girls are motivated and excited to see where this season will take them. They plan to hold the streak of being undefeated, in hopes of going to state. Nice work girls!
