The Farmington Girls Hockey Team finished their regular season with a record of 12-11-2 and a record of 9-7-2 in the South Suburban Conference. They defeated Rochester John Marshall on Wednesday in the first round of section play. Freshman Claire Enright who is committed to play D1 at the University of Minnesota led with 22 goals during the regular season. Samantha another freshman was not far behind her with 20 goals this season.  Ryleigh Furlong played every minute of every game this season. She had 3 shutouts and averaged 2 goals let in per game. The Tigers are a very young team this year with 4 8th graders, 10 underclassmen and 7 upperclassmen. I sat down with Captain Jenna Gerold and sophomore Carly Lancaster and asked them a few questions about the teams season and upcoming section play. I first asked them how they felt about the outcome of the season? They said “Conference play didn’t turn out how we wanted but our section play went really well as we got the number one seed.” Next I asked them what they think the team needs to focus on to get passed Lakeville South? We really need to focus on staying out of our own heads, and play as if we are the underdogs.

The next section game will be against Lakeville South on Saturday February 9th at home. The team is going into Sections with a strong chance for a trip to state. The Tigers will need to win the next two games for that to happen. Good luck girls, we are rooting for you!!
