Girls Cross Country

Lauren Higgins, Student

As the girls cross country comes to a close, the girls have made many big accomplishments. They just recently qualified for state and that’ll be going on sometime next week. Though the girls got a new coach, Adam Lippold, they were able to adapt to a new coach and do very well throughout the season. When I talked to Abby Bollig earlier in the season, she had a lot of good things to say about how she thought the season would go. She was out part of the season due to an injury but has been enjoying the sport since she started in 7th grade. The team has placed top or top 5 in many meets so far. In the Griak meet, the team placed 13th out of 55 teams which was a big accomplishment for them. Also taking home a pair of 3rd place finishes at the AppleJack invitational on September 16, at Aronson Park in Lakeville. The girls’ team finished third with 140 points, eight points out of second-place Shakopee. One of the team’s top runners, freshman, Anna Fenske is ranked 3rd in state and is a big part of the team, also placed first, almost a minute ahead of the second place runner. “She’s a big part of the team for being as young as she is,” says Abby. Over homecoming the week the girls participated in a run from Burnsville High School to Farmington High School with a bus following for breaks. The team was also able to be recognized at the pep fest where they carried the football and got announced there. When I talked to Abby earlier in the season, she also stated that she thinks they’ll place high in sections/ state which they did. Having the talent that the girls have with all the accomplishments they’ve made this season, good luck to the girls at state!
