Soccer Sections

On October 9th, Girls Soccer played their first section game. The tigers were seeded 4th and they would go to face the 5th seed Rochester Century. The game was rainy, cold and windy so the tigers knew from the beginning it would be battle. I sat down with captain Jenna Gerold before the game to ask her what the team needs to focus on in order to win the game. She told me that,” We really have to focus on taking a few touches on the ball before passing, making the easy passes and not playing boot ball.” She also talked to me about the struggling offense, “We really need to focus on offense, if we want to win this game we need to definitely get more shots on the net because we really struggle to get the ball in the back of the net.” The game started in the pouring rain. With the weather being the way it was the tigers had many good touches and plenty of shots on the goal like Gerold said they needed to do. Century’s goalie denied every shot that the tigers kicked at her as well as out own goalie Julia Paduano. With the first half being over and the second slowing ticking down both Century and the Tigers were tied at 0-0. With the final whistle blown the tigers will go into overtime. Tigers had so many shots on net but couldn’t get the ball to get into the back of the net. With less than 3 minutes left in the first half of overtime Tigers get a corner kick that could end the game. The ball is kicked and it’s a scramble in the box to get it in the back of the net. Callie Beck tigers midfielder settles the ball turns and…… GOALLLLLL!!!! TIGERS WIN 1-0 against Century and would move on to the Section Quarter Finals to face North.
