Getting to Know Mari Dougherty

Mari Dougherty recently finished another successful season with the Farmington Girls Swim and Dive team last fall, including being selected as captain, awarded MVP for the fourth year, participated in state, and recieved All Conference honorable mention. Dougherty started swimming in first grade and said it was “really challenging for me, and I just wasn’t very good.” Although she was not committed to the sport yet, she stuck with it and eventually came to enjoy it. She has been dedicated to swimming ever since, and has made many memorable experiences on her club and high school team. When asked what her favorite experiences with swimming were, she said “I enjoy the high school season the most, and getting to see my friends every day.” She shared a favorite highlight from last season at the last home meet against Apple Valley, and said “It was a really close meet and everyone swam amazing. We won by only one point and there were many exciting races.” Becoming a team captain has always been a goal of Dougherty’s, so she is very excited for the opportunity to become more of a leader next season. When asked about her goals for the upcoming season she says she hopes to drop more time and get more personal bests. After high school, Dougherty says “I am thinking about swimming at a college level, and I still want to improve my swimming in the future.”
