Golf: Tigers ninth in South Suburban meet

Rosemount senior Jake Sweetman tied for medalist honors with a round of 73 while leading the Irish boys golf team to second place at the first South Suburban Conference meet of the spring Monday at windy Creeks Bend Golf Course in New Prague.

The Irish’s top four golfers finished with a total of 312, nine strokes off the pace of Lakeville South. Eastview (319), Prior Lake (321), Shakopee (324), Eagan (325), Burnsville (325), Lakeville North (326), Farmington (331) and Apple Valley (334) rounded out the 10-team field.

Senior Cody Schultz served as the Irish’s No. 2 golfer, shooting a sixth-place round of 75. Farmington junior Lucas Berg joined Sweetman and Schultz in the top 10 with a ninth-place round of 77.

Austin Dollimer and Brady Whiting shot matching rounds of 82 to round out the Irish’s counting scores. Parker Trana added an 83 and Alex Trana carded an 87.

Senior Sam Newcomb provided the Tigers’ No. 2 score with an 83. Darby Grengs was one stroke back at 84 and Erik Holmstrom turned in an 87. Isaac Ferm (90) and Andy Meyer (93) also competed.17
