In the coming week, both Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band will be competing for the highest ranks in band. Five adjudicators from across the state will be evaluating students on their chosen pieces as well as rhythm, tempo and sound. Each student has a 10 minute session playing for an adjudicator whom will determine their placement. Megan Jax, a senior in symphonic band, is quoted as saying “This will be my first solo (last year I did a duet), I am nervous but optimistic”.  The solo students are accompanied by a  pianist whom will play along side them. The pianists include Stacy Julson, Kellie LeClaire, and Marureen Armstrong. For those working in duets or trios, they are able to work through the songs themselves rather than the in by the book classes. Students have had 4 or 5 weeks to perfect their songs. Student chose their songs from a list given by their band directors. If a student does not want to play one of the given songs, they are able to request an alternative song to be approved by their directors. If you receive a superior rating you are given a certificate and are recognized in front of family and friends at the final concert. Good luck to all participants!
