Farmington High School has many new teachers this year. I got a chance to talk to Mrs. Simmering about her time here at FHS. She went to the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and played in the Blue Gold marching band. She played flute, piccolo, and the saxophone. She just got married and lives with her dog in Burnsville. She teaches math here at FHS but she also has taught spanish in the past. Last year she taught spanish at Kennedy High school in Bloomington, but this is her fist math teaching job. One of the questions i asked her is what she has enjoyed about FHS. she told me she has really liked the self paced work, it works well with her teach philosophy. She also likes all the staff and students. One of her most memorable teaching experience, she held a showcase last year for members of the community could come in and see what her Spanish students had been working on for the trimester and year. She thought it was really important to her student since their families could come and see their work and the work could be appreciated. I another question i asked her was how she knew she want to be a teacher. She told me “I had spent the first 18 years of her life thinking I wanted to be a vet, and then senior year a band teacher pulled me aside and helped me on my own and he really made a difference in my life. I had decided that it would be really cool to be able to do that and help the people around me. The 2nd thing that help me was i had a math and Spanish teacher who helped me change my life around a little bit so i really wanted to continue with that.” She enjoys teaching because she wants to make a difference in students lives, and helping the future generations. She loves that sense of purpose. She is very excited to be working with all her students.
